When planning a Christmas party, it is important to keep your guest list in mind. A group of conservative adults would enjoy an entirely different extravaganza than would a group of your closest party friends. As such, there a number of possibilities for throwing your party and spreading some holiday cheer.

If you're looking to have a tasteful party with champagne and gourmet goodies, you may consider a "Winter Wonderland" party. Adorn your home with sparkling crystal, and instruct guests to come in their nicest formal attire. Line the walkway to your home with white luminaries, and use tasteful decorative blue and white lights around the exterior. Candles create a beautiful ambiance; your invitees will feel pampered and special. You may choose to have an ornament exchange at some point throughout the evening. If you wish to liven things up, you may be interested in having the rules of the exchange follow the "rob your neighbor" outline. This creates a fun, interactive atmosphere for all involved.

However, if you and your close friends want to get together to have a holiday bash, you may consider a themed evening. Ask people to dress up as their favorite Christmas character, whether it be Frosty, Santa, Rudolph, or an elf. Bring cookies and favorite drinks to pass, and put up your most festive and fun decorations. Have your friends bring their kids, and play "Secret Santa" when you hand out presents. Perhaps the kids can even have a cookie decorating contest. Everyone will go home feeling that they spent a wonderful evening sharing a laugh with the people they most enjoy.
